You may have fallen ill whilst on an all-inclusive holiday abroad, through food poisoning. You may have suffered with vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain or muscle aches all of which can be very unpleasant.
Food poisoning is an illness caused by eating contaminated food and the symptoms can begin a couple of days after eating, but sometimes just hours afterwards. On occasions, they may occur much later. The symptoms can range from stomach pains to potentially life-threatening illnesses. The causes can be eating food which has not been cooked properly; food that has not been prepared in a hygienic way or perhaps not stored at the correct temperature/left exposed to insects and contaminants, or food reheated incorrectly.
There are various types of food poisoning including botulism, E. coli, salmonella and listeria.
Food poisoning can be contracted at a hotel or for example on a cruise ship. The Package Tour Regulations 1992 should apply which would enable you to claim compensation for your illness. You may want to take legal advice if you have suffered such an illness in the last two years.
It is the tour operator’s responsibility to ensure that you have a safe and hygienic holiday.
We have experience of dealing with claims for illness and indeed many types of accidents abroad and we are always happy to provide some initial free advice or a preliminary assessment of any possible claim and consider if it can be funded by a “no-win no fee” agreement or whether you have legal expenses insurance that will cover the legal costs.
If you would like to discuss a possible claim with us please telephone (01264) 353411, send a free online enquiry from our website or email us at litigation@bsandi.co.uk and we will be pleased to help.
